Why Northshore?

Many of you have a wonderful story— of redemption, salvation, how God reached out to you in a difficult time… or how God is reaching out to you right now… We’d like to hear about it, and maybe have you present it this Easter. It could be a song, a poem, or just something you can share from your journey.

For starters, we’d like you to answer this question: “Why Northshore?”

What has Northshore meant to you? Have the people here been Jesus to you? We have this crazy notion that if we tell people about Jesus, they might want to get to know him like we do.

On this page you’ll find a few examples of how the Northshore family has reached out to those who’ve taken the time to tell us.

The Lenten Journey

We are now in Lent: a 40 day fast (not counting Sundays) leading up to Easter. I invite each of us to join together for this beautiful season of a unique focus on our Lord. As we’ve recently said, “We don’t fast to get God’s attention. We fast to give Him our attention.” Each day I will send a devotional email to encourage you.

You might ask, “what should I give up for Lent?” It could easily be a food, activity, or object. Here are some suggestions of things either I, my family or friends have given up for Lent in the past:

Men’s Breakfast Starts Back Feb. 1

A few of you have asked about when we’re going to start up our Friday morning breakfast times again. Well, I’m inviting all who can to meet this Friday. 6:30am at Northshore. Shane will cook breakfast — please reply if you are coming, so he can know how much to prepare. We usually chip in around $3/person to cover costs.

Conversation is always good – so hope you can come.

Why Am I Doing This?

More children are lost to cancer in the U.S. than any other disease—in fact, more than many other childhood diseases combined.Before they turn 20, about 1 in 300 boys and 1 in 333 girls will have cancer.

Worldwide, a child is diagnosed every 3 minutes.

In the 1950s, almost all kids diagnosed with cancer died. Because of research, today about 85% of kids with the most common type of cancer will live. But for many other types, progress has been limited, and for some kids there is still little hope for a cure.

I am trying to meet my goal of $1,000 by March 16, 2013 and once it is met I will shave my head in honor of children with cancer. The money goes to St. Baldrick’s to the 5 kids I am sponsoring from Mississippi. Your support is very much needed and EVERY PENNY helps me meet this goal.

What Will You Pray For In 2013?

Here it is, 2013. We’d like to make this a year of prayer, and start with a new prayer season. We’ll be sharing a little bit about that today; but why not make it a point to pray for Northshore every day in 2013? We need resources to help us meet the needs of our community; we need wisdom as we venture into the new sermon series on Nehemiah, and there are numerous needs in our fellowship. So please pray that God will meet our spiritual and financial needs this new year.

You don’t need a culinary degree to tell the difference. Offering only “specialty coffees” is one way we demonstrate our pursuit of excellence in all we do. How Does Your Garden Grow?

This is ONE way to grow a church… grow food! The community garden has become a gathering place for a few folks with “green thumbs” and open hearts. It’s always amazing to see how you can put a seed in the ground and with the right care, watch it grow and be harvested. What’s even better is how it can be a catalyst for friendship… vegetables aren’t the only good thing being cultivated here. Come check it out.
