On Sunday, February 19, we are going to share a meal together. Fred Garrot, who recently started worshipping and fellowshipping with us, is bringing his hotdog stand and providing us with hot dogs and all the condiments for our lunch. We will provide the rest…beans, chips, salad, drinks and desserts. There will be a sign up sheet in the morning, and you can let us know on Facebook.

On Sunday, February 12, 9:00am, Northshore is launching a new class– a 6 week “self-defense” course designed to introduce you to ways to protect yourself and your family both physically and spiritually. We will talk about personal safety, spiritual safety and prayer. It will be interactive on the personal safety side with demonstration of and learning of very basic self-defense techniques, and also be designed to affect and effect your mindset about personal safety and spiritual safety.

Jason Zebert is teaching this class; he has developed this class from his personal relationship with God, his study of the scriptures, his 16 year career as prosecuting attorney, his law enforcement training, and his passion for crime prevention.

The Life of Christ

We are continuing through our series on the Life of Christ. On Sunday mornings, and a few extra occasions over the next few months, we will read through the Gospels (Matthew, Mark, Luke and John) making comments and observations as we go… According to the New Century Translation and based upon the chronological outline created by R.C. Foster, I have written the four gospel accounts into one book. This brings the details of each of the writer’s accounts into one story.

During the Christmas season, we read and studied the birth and childhood of Jesus – now in January we are reading about Christ’s early ministry… For those of us who have never read the Gospels, this is proving to be insightful to say the least. To those of us who have grown up hearing these stories all our lives – God continues to amaze us.

You will not know and understand your life until you know and understand the life of Christ…

Now to God be all glory through His Son and through His Church.

The “Get Well” study …

Using faith as a foundation, this program helps you define and align your higher purpose for well-being by addressing the body, soul, and spirit. It inspires and challenges you to discover your best self, and supplies you with the skills to draw your own personal wellness blueprint, offers the opportunity to build a peer support group, and imparts the principles needed to be well for life, physically and spiritually.

We met on Sunday Mornings at 9:00 at Northshore. Thanks for those who checked it out.

EXODUS Series

Does our story read in a similar manner as the story of Exodus? How can our story become more like God’s Salvation Rescue story of His redeeming a people from captivity? Who was Jesus in that story – who is Jesus in our story? How do we look like a community where God is God?

Before mid-November we will read together the first 20 chapters being reminded and discovering anew how Isreal’s story and our story are both similar – yet full of God’s unique expressions of love and redemption and freedom and anger and interaction and discipline and salvation and truth and guidance.

Our study/discussion is based on an allegorical eyewitness account of the coming of Jesus into our lives and how He meets us right where we are in life. Alli Leatherman has authored this study and will be leading us as we discover how very personal and precious our coming to know Him is. Based on Isaiah 53:3-7.

Study of Romans

We are presently working through Paul’s letter to the Romans, hopefully discovering the relevance these words have on our lives today. In preparation for this, we are inviting you to read the first “8 chapters” of Romans. I’ve divided these chapters into 4 readings. You will receive these readings via email and you can find them on our website. Click here for the first one.

My approach to this series will be:

Start with the New Living Translation / share what I discovered in my personal “word study” / compare a few translations / combine other people’s comments from books, sermons and conversations / rely heavily on what Paul said in the previous chapters in Romans / consider our own current vocabulary / all the time listening for what the Spirit desires to tell us.

Then I will end each message with a suggested paraphrase.

For example my message on May 22, it looked like this:

“And so, dear brothers and sisters, I plead with you to give your bodies to God because of all he has done for you.” (NLT)

After explaining my reasons, I paraphrased that sentence as follows:

“And so dear brothers and sisters, with your eyes wide open to all the mercies of God, I plead with you to voluntarily present your bodies (your whole self) to God.”
